Day 1: Swan Lake Serenity

Afternoon:

  • Hike the Swan Lake Loop Trail: Access the trail directly from the campground at either the north or south end. This loop encircles Swan Lake, offering spectacular views of the water and surrounding mountains. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as deer, moose, and osprey along the trail.

Evening:

  • Kayak on Swan Lake: Enjoy a tranquil paddle on the calm waters of Swan Lake, taking in the serene environment and possibly spotting local wildlife.
  • Campfire and Loon Listening: Conclude the day with a campfire at your campsite, where you might hear the haunting calls of loons echoing across the lake.

Day 2: Long Lake Exploration and Republic Visit

Morning:

  • Breakfast at Camp: Start your day with a hearty breakfast amidst the natural beauty of the campground.
  • Travel to Long Lake: After breakfast, load up your kayaks and drive to nearby Long Lake for a day of exploration.

Afternoon:

  • Hike the Long Lake Trail: Embark on a hike around Long Lake, enjoying the scenic views and diverse flora and fauna.
  • Picnic Lunch: Enjoy a packed lunch by the lake, soaking in the peaceful surroundings.
  • Kayak on Long Lake: Paddle the serene waters of Long Lake, keeping an eye out for bald eagles and other wildlife.

Evening:

  • Dinner in Republic: Head into the historic town of Republic for dinner at a local restaurant, savoring regional cuisine.
  • Visit Republic Brewing Company: After dinner, stop by the local brewery to sample craft ales or ciders, experiencing the local flavor and hospitality.
  • Return to Camp: Drive back to Swan Lake Campground for a restful night’s sleep under the stars.

Day 3: Ten Mile Trail Hike and Farewell Swim

Morning:

  • Breakfast and Pack Lunch: Prepare for the day’s adventure with a nutritious breakfast and pack a lunch for the trail.
  • Hike the Ten Mile Trail: Drive to the Scatter Creek trailhead to access the Ten Mile Trail. This approximately five-mile round-trip hike takes you through fascinating glacial geology. Be cautious on the talus slopes during the warmer months, as rattlesnakes may be present.

Afternoon:

  • Swim at Swan Lake: After the hike, return to Swan Lake Campground for a refreshing swim in the lake. Climb up on one of the swim docks for a little extra Vitamin D.
  • Lunch at Campsite: Enjoy a leisurely lunch at your campsite, reflecting on the adventures of the past few days.

Evening:

  • Pack Up and Departure: Break down your campsite and prepare to head home, taking with you the memories of an adventure-filled getaway in Northeast Washington.
